ECGs Simply   -   Cardiac Arrhythmias Made Easy     Book CoverSecond edition

By Anne Evans-Murray

Introduction

This text book was written to be an introduction to interpretation of electrocardiography, not as a complicated text book. The purpose of this book is to present the often complicated explanation of electrocardiography in a simple and easy to read manner. Nurses, medical students and paramedics will find this book very beneficial. Each rhythm is explained in a simple manner which is accompanied by diagrams and rhythm strips to help simplify the concepts. There are very few books that approach this subject in a simplified way which allows the reader to gain a rapid understanding of the subject. It is certain that this publication will satisfy the need for such a book. The second edition contains an update of previous chapters and an additional chapter on some of the more rare conditions which were not covered in the first edition.

Foreword by Sue Forster, RN - Director Education Services Pty. Ltd.

It is with great pleasure that I write this foreword for the second edition of “ECGs Simply”. The success of the first edition verifies my premise that there was a need for this text. In this new edition the inclusion of several miscellaneous conditions not covered in the first edition is welcome.

ECGs Simply” is written by a clinician for clinicians. It is a valuable reference for both novices and experts who care for clients with cardiac anomalies. It is also a valuable reference for anyone who is involved with assessing the health status of clients. Accurately interpreting electrocardiographs (ECG) is a skill that eludes many practitioners, but it is an essential skill that needs to be mastered to ensure that expedient, timely and appropriate interventions are implemented. It is self evident that to delay appropriate interventions will result either in client harm or fatality.

Each chapter is written in a style that encourages the reader to be actively involved with the interpretative process.

The layout of the text is:-

• simplistic, without being patronising;

• all-inclusive, without being protracted;

• concise, without being too long-winded.

It is very easy to read and understand with many diagrams, examples, explanations and activities to assist the reader.

The author of the book, Anne Evans-Murray, is a recognised authority on the topic and her passion related to the subject is obvious throughout the book. I highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to unravel the conundrum presented by every ECG recording.
