2 DAY PROGRAM - Presenter will be Anne Evans-Murray.

Time:  9.00 am to 3.45 daily

Become confident in your interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias.

  • For all nurses wanting to increase their skills so they can work confidently in critical care areas, also applicable to nurses in general wards wanting to upskill their knowledge

  • For nurses currently working in coronary care, high dependency or medical wards who want to upgrade or revise their arrhythmia interpretation skills.

  • For medical students/ paramedics or those interested in increasing their arrhythmia interpretation skills.

The first session will revise the basics of reading ECGs and rhythm strips. Then step by step the presenter will assist with moving your knowledge from basics to complex 12 lead ECGs. You do not need to feel this will be too complex for you, as the presenter is experienced at explaining complex concepts in easy to understand language in a very interesting way.

Basic electrophysiology - nursing responsibilities

Atrial arrhythmias - tachycardia

Inappropriate sinus tachycardia

Syncope: POTS

Atrial fibrillation - nursing assessment and complications 

Syncope and near syncope:  Pre excitation syndrome

Afternoon session
Sudden cardiac death

Life threatening arrhythmias

Differentiating between: Pulseless Electrical Activity and syncope


Long QT syndrome - responsibilities of monitoring a patient with an antidepressant overdose.
Recognition of LQT syndrome: inherited and acquired 






DAY TWO 

Morning session

Interpretation of a 12 lead ECG with a patient with chest pain

​Myocardial Infarction  - SSTEMI / NSTEMI

Wellens syndrome

Right ventricular MI and complications from inferior STEMI

Pericarditis, abnormal P waves and others


12.30 to 1.15 Lunch 

Afternoon session

Atrio- ventricular Heart Blocks and recognition of pacing rhythms

Bundle branch block and significance of Hemi Blocks

Athletes Heart and the link to Sudden Cardiac Death
Brugada syndrome
